Tern TV Website

Unlocking curiosity through an abstract, immersive web experience.

Background & Solution

With a global base and audience, Tern Television are a media company specialising in meaningful storytelling through documentaries. They commissioned us to design and develop a unique, modern, and engaging website to act as a companion discovery tool to accompany their latest series 'Why are we here?'

Tern wanted their site to match the high production value of their series, and to accommodate and encourage the natural curiosity of their audience. Our key challenge was to develop an architecture and design which offered non-linear paths through the huge volume and variety of content offered on the site, yet was still clear and easy to navigate.

The breadth of rich media content demanded a creative technical approach to keep the site light and fast-loading. This gave us the capacity to fully address the unique challenge of drawing a structured and visually exciting solution out of the abstract nature of the series’ themes.

We achieved this by combining design elements including parallax movement, multi-axis navigation, and immersive full-screen imagery. The final website is deeply engaging, experiential, and closely reflects the deep nature of the topics that 'Why are we here?' explores.
