Scotland
Food & Drink

Designing and integrating a modern, responsive, modular and template-led website to better serve key audience groups.

Background & objectives

Scotland Food & Drink is a government-backed organisation whose aim is to grow the food and drink industry in Scotland to £30 billion a year by 2030 and to build on Scotland's international reputation as a ‘Land of Food and Drink’. They approached Screenmedia as their 8 year old website was outdated and no longer meeting their target market’s needs.

Critically, it didn’t showcase Scotland’s food and drink sectors in the best light, and as a result failed to convey this rich and valuable industry to a global marketplace. They sought a beautiful, functional and responsive modern site that would promote Scottish produce and portray Scotland as the place to do business.

Beautiful unparalleled imagery

We designed the site to be fully responsive and by using Scotland Food & Drink’s rich and vast library of photography, we could showcase the best of the industry in the boldest and most impactful way possible. It also enabled us to put both the produce and the producers front and centre while keeping in line with their updated branding guidelines.

Design Details

Faster development with
Umbraco 7 and Azure

Using the newest version of Umbraco 7.12 allowed Scotland Food & Drink to be fully compliant to modern marketing protocols and GDPR regulations, as well as ensuring any future upgrades could be completed seamlessly.

Hosting our solution on Azure Apps Service equally allowed greater collaboration between our developers, resulting in significant cost and time savings for the client. Additionally by using Azure Platform as a Service (PaaS), Scotland Food & Drink’s website was made to be optimised based on its usage, making it a more robust and efficient solution.

A site fit for the future

After a thorough audit of their website’s existing functionality, we worked to recreate and optimise them in Umbraco 7 to ensure their users would remain familiar with the site while allowing Scotland Food & Drink to plan for the future and offer a more bespoke experience to their users.

Seasonality calendar

We integrated a bespoke seasonality calendar into the site that fully synced up with produce suppliers, allowing users to find out about seasonal produce availability.

Optimised search and tagging

By using optimised page tagging systems for the events, resources, and blogs, the site offers users search results through tailored persona style landing pages.

Bespoke forms with dotmailer

By integrating dotmailer's marketing automation platform, we were able to further enhance the site's handling of forms and member data, making the site more secure and future-proof.

Results

Scotland Food & Drink are a key part of the Scottish produce industry and this new update to their digital estate allows them to showcase the best of Scotland’s produce industry on a global platform.

In addition to this, new functionality future-proofs their site, helps grow the value of Scotland's food and drink sector, and sets out their stall to stand out in a competitive marketplace.
