Say hello to our new developers!

Lauren | 15/08/2017

Continuing our series of interviews with Screenmedia's newest recruits, we sat down with our new developers Andrew and Vlad to find out a bit more about their roles and why they chose Screenmedia.

Read part one of our series here.

Vlad - Graduate Developer

In 140 characters, what exactly do you do?

I integrate frameworks using different programming languages in different environments to create innovative solutions for clients.

Previous experience...

Web design with a pretty useful masters degree in Data Science.

Why Screenmedia?

It seemed like the kind of team that help each other grow, and I thought "Those guys ? Yeah, I wouldn't mind spending 8 to 12 hours a day with them"

Oddest job…

Security at a seniors' dance night.

On the nightstand…

I don't have a nightstand yet (new flat, small bedroom)

In my spare time I like…

Reading a book at home, going outdoors and finding stuff to do, and thinking of that one idea that could revolutionise an area of science/tech/life.

Favourite tune on the office Sonos…

Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack.

Weirdest fact about me…

I can out-eat most people I know without putting on a bit of weight.

Andrew - Graduate Developer

In 140 characters, what exactly do you do?

I'm part of back-end web team involved in developing and supporting .NET, C#, and Umbraco web solutions.

Previous experience...

I joined Screenmedia straight from university but gained experience through coursework and side projects in my spare time. My favourite piece of coursework was my Master's project where I created an Android app to capture actionable intelligence from emergency events reported on Twitter.

Why Screenmedia?

I was attracted by the diversity of clients and projects and by how innovative and forward thinking the company is. At my first interview the culture and friendliness of the company really stood out and my heart was set on securing a position.

Oddest job…

Working as a event steward was odd at times. I had a drunk guy approach me in hysterics because "the buttons on his shirt had been stolen". It turns out he had it on inside out.

On the nightstand…

Geeky books featuring space, Elon Musk, and Prof. Brian Cox. My collection of whisky. A tennis ball left by my Jack Russell, Alfie.

In my spare time I like…

To be at the gym, training muay thai and Brazilian jiu jitsu, being a secret whisky snob, being outdoors, eating marshmallows, and watching documentaries.

Favourite tune on the office Sonos…

I usually have my own headphones in with trance or chillout on so I don't mind.

Weirdest fact about me…

I once scuba dived with a shark called Tinkerbell.
