Overview
This multilingual app, developed for ISO and the tour Eiffel
Paris, enables visitors to the Eiffel Tower to explore a 360
degree panoramic of Paris using the unique capabilities and
characteristics of the iPad. As users slide, zoom, drag and scale
the panoramic image, points of cultural and historic interest
appear. Clicking on the hotspots, reveals audio/visual guides to
the many famous city landmarks, and also provides useful tourist
information.
Screenmedia were commissioned to develop the application and
after nearly 2 years developing for iPhone and iPod Touch, this was
our first experience of using the Apple SDK to create an iPad app,
and we are very pleased to have found the development environment
very similar to the iPhone SDK. The enhanced view, functionality
and power of the iPad is truly revolutionary for the entertainment
and education sector and we were delighted to work with such a high
profile visitor attraction on our first iPad project.
In addition to developing the application interface and
functionality, Screenmedia have provided the client (ISO Design)
with a easy to use system for content update and maintenance.
Similar to a web CMS, the system enables any content author or
designer to quickly add or edit the iPad app's content then post to
the iTunes Store. Excellent technology which allows fresh
content to be added as new tourist interest points emerge. And that
way, we don't have to keep nipping over to Paris for content
updates - which, let's face it, would be entirely inconvenient and
not pleasurable at all...
