Slabovia

A social networking site designed to engage teenagers with the topics of sex education, politics and science.

Slabovia

A project for Tern Television and Channel 4, Slabovia was digital home to the People's Republic of Slabovia. This community site aimed to recruit new citizens from young people disillusioned with the West (all in the spirit of education of course!)

Working from Tern's concept of a nation with low-tech media infrastructure (newspaper and state-controlled broadcast) the solution not only looks the part, it's also very high-tech with the richest possible GUI.

Behind the engaging design was a robust content management system which enabled the production team to update the site content, manage user accounts, and analyse traffic.

It also represented our first major foray into the use of social networking techniques to build and sustain an active community. At last count, it had over 5,000 users and was nominated for a BAFTA (Scotland) for Best Interactive Media.
