Overview
From a roll call of 64 competitors, Screenmedia won the tender
to produce Museums Galleries Scotland's new online project
'Remembering Scotland at War'.
At the core of RSAW is the creation of a website featuring
online exhibitions on the themes of World War II and conflicts
thereafter.
Screenmedia produced an innovative Content Management
System (CMS) that enabled 16 project teams, from around
Scotland, to create and upload over 300 exhibitions with more than
6000 multimedia assets. Exhibitions include visual assets such as
diary extracts, newspaper articles, old photographs, archived film,
documents, paintings and photographed objects and together with
video oral histories, each media rich exhibition has been created
around a person, event or location.
The website encourages the use of technology and heritage
resources in conjunction to facilitate exploration and learning.
The online exhibitions will make a lasting contribution to the
understanding of Scotland's conflicts and their impact on people
and places in Scotland, whilst also adding local interest and
relevance.
The project also has a community element where members can
upload their own archive media, share and discuss their personal
memories or associations with wartime. A later addition to the
project, the community dimension to the project has exciting
potential to uncover a whole archive of personal images, letters,
documents and artifacts previously unknown to historians in
Scotland.
We are delighted to have worked on this innovative heritage
project and are proud of the the results. Check it out at www.rememberingscotlandatwar.org.uk
