NHS HIS eLearning

Improving clinical care and practice around diabetes with best practice illustration, animation, and interactive eLearning.

Diabetes: Think, Check, Act

NHS Healthcare Improvement Scotland (NHS HIS) recently commissioned Screenmedia to create a series of five eLearning modules to support their Think, Check, Act initiative – a programme designed to help healthcare professionals identify and reduce errors made when caring for diabetic patients in hospitals.

Built on the eLearning authoring software Articulate Storyline, we created a series of highly engaging and interactive eLearning modules. The modules are fully SCORM compliant and track a range of usage statistics including user details, time spent in learning, number of assessment attempts, and completion of the final scenario-based multiple choice quiz.

In planning we worked closely with the project group and two subject experts to storyboard and structure preexisting content from lecture, seminar, and tutorial materials to make it suitable for eLearning with clear and defined calls to action.

Within the learning content itself we utilised bespoke photography, custom illustration and iconography to bring the sometimes data-heavy content to life and reinforce learning. We also used illustration to complement and contextualise the scenario-driven examples and assessments, encouraging users to think about the situation presented to them before progressing to the assessment.

The Think, Check, Act modules also featured a number of bespoke animation videos, complete with full voiceover. These rich media additions were some of the most well received areas of the modules, and were praised for their interactivity and engaging interpretation of critical content.

The final resources are unique, contemporary, on brand, and highly engaging to the target audience. We have received very positive feedback from members of NHS HIS and end users alike who have been impressed by the sophistication, quality, and interactivity of this module suite.
