Scottish National Blood Transfusion (SNBTS) have been investing
in training for Hospital Blood Bank staff to teach them the
principles of Good Manufacturing Practice. However, their hard copy
content was considerably lengthy and the sheer volume of the pack
deterred users.
SNBTS commissioned Screenmedia to put the content online as a
learning resource, making it more interactive and engaging.
We created an interactive flash resource which used a mixture of
graphics and bespoke photography to support the content and give
the resource a clean, unique style. In order to gain the relevant
photography, we went out on a photo shoot to a modern hospital
laboratory.
We edited down and segmented the original content into
manageable chunks of information. The content was also layered so
users could briefly overview the resource, or if they required more
detail, they could link to notes that were embedded throughout the
content.
We also made the resource interactive by developing relevant
activities to encourage user participation and reinforce learning
(e.g. multiple choice style questions).
To ensure that the resource was accessible to as many users as
possible we created an html version which was compatible with
screen readers.
The resource was to be hosted on their Learning Management
System (ORAS), with each unit linking to a recorded assessment. We
ensured that the learning resource was SCORM (Sharable Content
Object Reference Model) compliant meaning that it was compatible
with other LMS's should SNBTS wish to share the resource.
Our client was so pleased with our work and the feedback
they received that they have now commissioned us to re-develop more
learning modules.
