Overview
This animation project for Imaginate and Learning Teaching Scotland's Co-create arts project saw the creation of an
interactive learning resource to support children in assessing and
evaluating live theatrical performances.
Imaginate approached Screenmedia with the brief to transfer
their traditional classroom workshop approach to engaging
digital resources that helped teachers and drama professionals
across the country deliver interactive lessons on the subject of
performance art evaluation.
We responded to the brief by developing a step by step guide
delivered by an animated character, Stevie the Theatre Critic. A
resource to guide users through class discussion and evaluation
exercises; as well as an interactive review process to help
children articulate the elements of the performance they enjoyed or
disliked.
Designed for use on classroom smart boards, and accessible
through Learning Teaching Scotland's Schools intranet Glow. The
resource guides teachers and pupils through three clear stages of
evaluation. At each stage there are interactive activities plus
embedded classroom exercises for further exploration of subject
themes in drama, art, literacy and numeracy.
This attractive, engaging and rewarding resource is great fun
for school pupils, while containing a wealth of information and
support for teachers and drama professionals. The intuitive step by
step interaction makes it easy for teachers to deliver a blended
approach to arts evaluation; using both online interactive tools
and offline discussion groups and worksheets. It was another
exciting challenge, and great subject to work on as it suited the
content, design and rich-media capabilities of our studio and
team.
Talking About Theatre was showcased at the Scottish learning
festival and received lots of positive feedback following pilot
testing in several schools.
Talking About Theatre is live on Glow.
