Open source
Wondering why we chose open source technologies for content
management? We gave it a lot of thought, but you see open
source platforms are inherently inexpensive and unlike others, you
will not need to buy license agreements, or pay any additional
fees. It's more flexible for you too. You are not tied in to
the original developers, in other words, if you want to move your
CMS development in-house, you can, at any time.
Simple but powerful
Despite being so simple and easy to use, the Umbraco platform
has a powerful and feature-rich core, with advanced role-based
security, powerful Word processing editors, digital media
management, notifications, revision-management, and plug-in
management.
Limitless design
Unlike so many open source and white label CMS solutions,
Umbraco does not provide any default visual or structural templates
for your design. Umbraco lets you create unique and compelling
designs that integrate with your unique branding and identity.
Extensible and expandable
Umbraco utilizes a plug-in architecture which allows developers
to enhance the core functionality of Umbraco to include:
• Google Analytics integration
• Map API's such as Google ans OS Survey maps
• Blog Functionality
• Gallery Functionality
Accessible content creation
Umbraco will enable you to create a website that meets any
accessibility requirements your organization may have, such as the
standards suggested by the W3C.
It will also allow your website to be usable by a variety of
different user agents and devices-ensuring your website's content
is accessible to as many people as possible.
Intuitive content creation
Umbraco simplifies the creation of new content by maintaining
minimal, simplistic, and context-sensitive functionality throughout
the content publishing process. Users are only presented with
relevant and useful options when creating or editing content.
Works everywhere
The interface of Umbraco is also designed to ensure
cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility. Umbraco will run
flawlessly on any modern operating system, and can be managed using
all modern browsers such as Internet Explorer 7+, Firefox, Chrome,
Opera, and Safari.
Microsoft Word integration
Even though umbraco has a built-in, easy to use UI that runs in
all browsers, sometimes it's just more convenient to use a desktop
program to write your content. That's why umbraco includes
Microsoft Word integration. With Microsoft Word 2007, you can
access umbraco pages directly from your desktop, to edit content
and create new pages. You can even work off-line then upload when
reconnected.
Dedicated Media Library
Umbraco's media library stores all of your site's digital
assets, such as images, documents, videos and flash files. When
assets are stored in the media library, they are instantly
available everywhere in Umbraco. Use your media assets in the rich
text editor with point-and-click simplicity, or insert them
directly into your templates.
Built on Microsoft .NET
Umbraco is built upon Microsoft's .NET Framework, Microsoft SQL
Server, and XSLT. Key features include; Support of both Custom and
Web User Controls, Full Ajax compatibility, an easy to use
framework (Umbraco Base) for working with dynamic content and
javascript, and XSLT for creating dynamic lists.
