Last week we caught up with some of our newest recruits around the Screenmedia studios. This week it’s the turn of Julia, Kirstie and Martin to dish on what they do, where they came from and why they chose Screenmedia.

Julia Fenton – Practice Manager

In 140 characters, what exactly do you do?

I am responsible for running the studio’s day-to-day operations as well as providing HR and finance support.

Previous experience…

I've previously worked as a Personal Assistant for organisations such as VisitScotland and LUC (an environmental consultancy company) and have also been Legal Support/Secretary at the Equality and Human Rights Commission and McClure Naismith Solicitors.

Why Screenmedia…

I saw and took the opportunity to challenge myself and work in an exciting, fast-paced company who values their staff.

Oddest job…

Care Assistant for a nursing home.

On the nightstand…

Just my phone.

In my spare time I like…

Spending time with my family and entertaining my two daughters, Eva, who is 3, and Emelia, who is 1.

Favourite tune on the office Sonos…

Can’t think of a favourite, there’s too many to pick from!

Weirdest fact about me…

I like flying (or at least I used to before I had two little people to entertain).

Kirstie Douglas – Producer

In 140 characters, what exactly do you do?

I ensure that project schedules and budgets run swimmingly by interacting with all teams to see projects through from start to finish.

Previous experience…

In 2014 I graduated with a MEng in Product Design Engineering. I previously worked in a project management and requirements gathering role at Jaguar Land Rover, then made the move to Screenmedia to be part of a smaller, dynamic company.

Why Screenmedia…

Screenmedia is a great place to learn and grow, I believe that digital media has an exciting future and I was determined to be a part of it! The culture and the people are great, plus we get to work with some incredible clients to deliver new and creative solutions every day.

Oddest job…

I was once employed as a ‘Fun Nanny’ in the South of France, looking after two boys and going on day trips for lunch on their superyacht!

On the nightstand…

My laptop, so that I can watch a Netflix episode or two before bed.

In my spare time I like…

There’s always a new restaurant to try, or place to visit. That’s what I love the most, even though my bank account doesn’t!

Favourite tune on the office Sonos…

I find myself singing along to most things, but I like it when a bit of Arctic Monkeys comes on.

Weirdest fact about me…

Growing up, my childhood crushes were Robbie Williams, Aaron Carter and Jessica Rabbit.

Martin MacDonald - .NET Developer

In 140 characters, what exactly do you do?

I develop and support web-based applications and am in the process of gaining Microsoft accreditation.

Previous experience…

I attended the University of Strathclyde where I studied software engineering. My first job out of university was with HMRC as a desktop application developer, where I was part of a team which developed and supported apps used by government offices across the country.

Why Screenmedia…

I wanted to work for a company that would help me develop my skills and improve myself. I noticed the awards that the company had won and wanted to be part of that. The environment is also great, everyone is upbeat and friendly and I really look forward to coming in to work in the mornings.

Oddest job…

Clearing several containers full of mannequins which we then dressed up in high-vis jackets and hats for most of the day.

On the nightstand…

Think and Grow Rich! – Napoleon Hill. Eagerly awaiting Winds of Winter though!

In my spare time I like…

Going to the gym and watching football.

Favourite tune on the office Sonos…

Libertines – Don’t Look Back Into The Sun.

Weirdest fact about me…

I eat an obscene amount of chicken.
