Say A Big Hello to These New Faces... Posted by: Emily on 13/08/2015

New Team Blog Image

The Screenmedia team has had a growth spurt, and we’re delighted to welcome three new specialists to the team! While we’re very aware of their talent, we caught up with Lynne, Gary and Carolyn to delve a bit deeper into what makes them tick.

Lynne

Lynne McCormick – Front End Developer

About me…

I'm a front-end web developer from Glasgow and I've been building websites for just over 3 years now, although my background is in 3D modelling/animation and art. Making websites look great and function well on different screens and browsers is quite the challenge. I'm addicted to learning new things and in this type of job there’s always something new around the corner. Outside of work I love to keep fit and I'm a big fan of music. I also enjoy reading, Formula 1, playing games (Mass Effect and Portal are favourites), going to the cinema, and space/science stuff!

Why Screenmedia…

The culture here is great - it's a fantastic work environment and good atmosphere. It was one of the main reasons why I wanted to join Screenmedia. Everyone has been so friendly; it makes you enjoy coming to work every day. The quality of work is also very high, and I was looking for a new challenge.

Odd job…

I occasionally do pyrotechnic work for a professional firework company.

On the nightstand…

My kindle and my phone.

On the book shelf…

I am currently struggling through the last Game of Thrones book but looking forward to reading The Martian by Andy Weir next.

Guilty pleasure…

I guess Pinterest is my guilty pleasure. I spend far too much time on Pinterest - they even gave me a business account!

Most embarrassing iTunes purchase…

Probably Taylor Swift – 1989. I'm not ashamed.

Greatest fear…

Sharks!

Believe it or not…

I've never seen Jaws.

Gary

Gary Bissland - Technical Director

About me…

I’m a technical director at Screenmedia and I oversee the delivery of technical solutions, development strategy, requirements capture and analysis and technical planning. I enjoy problem solving, as well as managing teams and assisting in personal development. Outside of work, I enjoy playing football and golf.

Why Screenmedia…

I was looking for a new challenge after working at my previous company for over 9 years. Screenmedia were expanding and seeing their ambitions, I felt it would be a perfect fit for me. The atmosphere here is also really friendly, I noticed it from the minute I first walked in the door.

On the nightstand…

The Godfather- Mario Puzo.

On the book shelf…

Will it Fly, by Thomas Mcknight.

Guilty pleasure…

Chick flicks.

Most embarrassing iTunes purchase…

Don’t Stop Believing -Journey.

Greatest fear…

Snakes.

Believe it or not…

I scored two goals in a Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park.

Carolyn

Carolyn Barbour – Mobile Developer

About me…

I graduated in 2013 from University of Abertay with an Honours degree in Computer Games Technology. My first month at Screenmedia has been really exciting as I’ve been getting up-to-speed with the technology we use and new projects.

I really enjoy mobile development because it’s ‘real’. You can set up a project and have something displayed on a phone within 5 minutes. Out of the office I enjoy games, running, coding and socialising. I sink way too much time into League of Legends!

Why Screenmedia…

I was looking for somewhere with a friendly, communicative team but also a structured development process, and Screenmedia really shone through. I’m looking forward to working with the people here, Xamarin, and a sprint plan!

Odd job…

I spent 3 years as a bartender during university as an odd-job too. I have too many stories about the awfulness I’ve witnessed in nightclubs!

On the nightstand…

The Pragmatic Programmer by Andrew Hunt.

On the book shelf…

Peopleware: Productive Projects and Teams by Tom Demarco; Don’t Make Me Think!: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability by Steve Krug; and Head First Design Pattern by Eric Freeman.

Most embarrassing iTunes purchase…

I’m definitely more of an Android person, but I did set up my mother’s iTunes account recently!

Greatest fear…

I think it’s a toss-up between spiders and my other half being in a motorcycle accident. I’m much better around spiders now and I can capture and release them out the window without totally freaking out!

Believe it or not…

I was one of five women on my course out of about 70.

We’re thrilled to expand the team and welcome like-minded individuals to the Screenmedia family. If you think you’d like to be our next new recruit, check out our current vacancies.
