Remembering Scotland at War, with its online exhibitions and
social networking area for 'capturing memories', has been
shortlisted at the Museums and Heritage Awards for Educational
Initiative.
Joanne Orr, CEO, Museums Galleries Scotland
said:
"We really enjoyed leading on this ground breaking project. We
wanted to use advancing technology to increase the options for the
way museums and galleries tell stories about their collections and
- most importantly - how those stories affect individuals.
What we have now is a well-received learning resource. We are
delighted to have our work recognised and with inclusion on the
Museums and Heritage Award shortlist."
To develop the online museum, Museums Galleries Scotland worked
with 13 museums and galleries across Scotland to create the
thought-provoking exhibitions. These stretch from The Museum of The
Black Watch (Perth) and Scapa Flow Visitor Centre and Museum
(Lyness) to West Dunbartonshire Council and Highland Council. Part
of creating these stories involved working closely with local
schools, youth and community groups to gather emotive
reminiscences.
Why not take a look around Remembering Scotland At
War.
