Last week it was great to see the recent mobile work we
completed for The National Library of Scotland's John Murray
Archive (JMA) being showcased online at Museum Galleries Scotland.
The John Murray Archive app for
iPhone/iPod was designed and built to provide a new
multimedia introduction to this extensive literary collection that
comprises over 150,000 papers, manuscripts, letters and other
documents representing many of the world's most celebrated writers,
thinkers, politicians, explorers, economists and scientist.
As the Scottish cultural sector begins to embrace the benefits
that mobile technologies can bring, it is encouraging to find best
practices being written up and shared amongt this rich and vibrant
community. And even more heartening was the spotlight this
particular study placed on the importance of background research in
a project using new technology, which clearly should always be the
starting point of any mobile application development as we explore
further in our 5 steps to mobile app development.
